Due to the implementation of the Federal Affordable Care Act – Open Payments (previously known as Sunshine Reporting) reporting, DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction transitioned away from reporting consultant spend on a quarterly basis and began following the Open Payments requirement to report U.S. physician spend and CMS-defined U.S. teaching institution spend on an annual basis. The government will create a publically available website by September of 2014 which will contain applicable 2013 spend as defined with the regulations. A link will be provided on this site as soon as it is made available from the government.
DePuy Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgeons: A History of Innovation
The development of orthopaedic implants and surgical techniques, which have helped millions of people relieve their pain and restore their mobility, would not have been possible without the contributions of orthopaedic surgeons. These surgeons not only perform life-changing procedures, they help companies develop and design new products, they conduct scientific and clinical research, they provide education and training and they help others in the orthopaedic community deliver the best care possible to patients all over the world.
Since its inception, DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. has worked with key thought leaders to develop innovative products such as the P.F.C.® Sigma™ Knee, the leading knee replacement system that has been implanted in nearly two million patients all over the world. Leading surgeons also contributed to the design of other key products, including DePuy Orthopaedics' exclusive P.F.C.® Sigma™ and LCS® Rotating Platform Knees, the AML® and Summit® Hip Systems and the Pinnacle® Acetabular Cup System. We also work with surgeons to develop leading educational and training materials.
DePuy Orthopaedics compensates surgeons based on the nature and extent of the work they do with us. Most surgeons work with us in educational and expert capacities and are entitled to receive compensation for their time and expertise. Others are directly involved in the product development process and may be entitled to receive royalty payments for the innovations they bring to the design of implants and associated surgical instruments. These arrangements are typical for experts, educators, inventors and designers in many industries.
With the growing number of people seeking hip and knee replacement, DePuy Orthopaedics will continue to rely on the expertise and insights of orthopaedic surgeons.
